INTERVIEW // We got the chance to speak to the incredible Yöurr about his life in music

Yöurr is a Budapest based producer and DJ, whose style sits somewhere between melodic techno and afro house, although it’s hard to put a label on his productions. Since his first release came up in late 2017, he appeared on Stil vor Talent, Connected, Earthly Delights and ZEHN Records just to mention a few. He gained support from Hernan Cattaneo, Eeelke Kleijn, Mees Salomé, Applescal and Fake Mood amongst many great DJs who spin his tracks.

We had the pleasure of talking with Yöurr, where we got to know about his life in music and we were lucky enough to get the chance to hear his latest track.

Tell us about your earliest musical memory?

Probably listening Kraftwerk in the car with my father.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

That’s always changing, I don’t think there’s any specific style that I can be identified by. I’m sure that 3 years from now my music will be totally different.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

Red Hot Chili Peppers –  By The Way, Bloc Party – Silent Alarm, The XX – xx, Coldplay – X&Y, Moderat – Bad Kingdom, Jon Hopkins – Immunity & GusGus – Mexico

What key pieces of gear/software are you using to define your sound?

I’m making music by only using different softwares’ and samples at the moment. My go to vst is U-he Diva for sure.

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

Sports. Running, football and basketball to be specific.

What is your opinion on the ever-spreading sub-genre vine? Are there too many? Do you think there’ s perhaps a sub-genre that doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

Good music always finds its way to the right audience, no matter what genre it is.

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

I’ve only started performing quite recently. While creating music is something I’ve been doing for almost 10 years. Therefore, I feel more confident when I produce, but that might change in the future!

As a music artist, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

I think it was always like this. Times and systems change, but most of the artists get less credit than they deserve. Making a living as an artist and creating real art often don’t go hand-in-hand, only a few can manage to do both. You need to decide what is your goal.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

Nhii. He’ll be big pretty soon.

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

Everything will be revealed when it’s time:)
