Swedish House Mafia Link With Lykke Li on New Single ‘Happiness Is So Sad’
Out now on every major streaming and download service, ‘Happiness Is So Sad’ pairs Swedish House Mafia with Lykke Li for the first time. The release lands while the group maintains their residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza and builds toward two record-scale homecoming shows at Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg on 28 and 29 August. Those dates represent Swedish House Mafia’s biggest concerts so far, arriving after Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso played the track during a joint set at Tomorrowland 2026. Lykke Li contributes her first new recording since The Afterparty, her sixth album from May, following summer appearances at Coachella 2026, a headline slot at KOKO London, and a performance at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
Recorded in Stockholm and produced by Swedish House Mafia, PARISI and Fred Again.., the track includes songwriting credits for Max Martin and Oscar Holter. It premiered worldwide with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 on 30 July. The lyrics and arrangement focus on how a single memory can contain both happiness and sorrow at once, holding the enjoyment of an experience against the recognition that the experience itself has already passed. The result keeps the production economical, centering the interplay between Lykke Li’s vocal line and the group’s electronic structure.
Midway through the Ushuaïa Ibiza residency that runs every Sunday until 13 September, the single has already settled into the sets as a consistent high point. It also bridges directly into the Ullevi Stadium shows and the later dates at Portola Festival on 27 September and Head Trip Festival on 11 October.
