The nightlife has an alluring factor on discotheque musician Super Plage’s latest song and video ‘NYE’ released under Lisbon Lux Records. Jules Henry, also known as Super Plage, precedes his forthcoming album Magie à minuit scheduled to be released on the 31st of March also via Lisbon Lux Records. The celebratory element of both the song and the video ‘NYE’ is at the forefront of the new single, highlighting the desire to stay awake throughout the entire year and, spend hours in a charming and dazzling atmospheric dimension of the world, where the night never ends and dream-states becomes real.

What sort of magic did you discover while making ‘NYE’?
Firstly it really struck some of my friends when I showed it to them, one of them told me it made her cry and the other listened to it like 50 times in a week, I’m not sure any song ever had that effect on the people that are closest to me. It was also one of the first times that I integrated sounds that are more theatrical like the breathing sounds that really sound like someone is hyperventilating and feeling anxious, it was meant to accentuate the stressfulness of the song and I think I realised that this was an interesting way to make the audience better feel the energy of a song.
How should listeners approach the magic you have created in the new single and video?
Just imagine the last time you really started to feel bad at a party and that everything was just too much.
What’s your “secret sauce?” What makes your sound stand out?
I don’t think it’s very secret! I try to make something both catchy and exciting so that it appeals to people right away but I also find it important that the sound design and the lyrics have a certain weirdness and personality.
Define a successful day in your eyes.
I guess it could be either making a song that I’m really proud of, then I’ll treat myself thinking that I’ve had a productive and successful day, or performing and having a great time with the audience and feeling that we’ve created a special moment together.
What made you decide to pursue a musical career?
It’s probably a mix of watching bands on MTV when I was young and really looking up to them and their lifestyle, and just not feeling that any other kind of job was made for me, I think that when I realised that was really the moment when I decided to commit to doing this full time for better or worst.
What would you be doing as a career if you never pursued music?
I would probably be an English teacher in french schools and have my students analyse Lou Reed songs!
Pros and cons of the industry from your perspective?
You rarely pay a ticket for a show, but it’s very exhausting

Serum (software synth), Omnisphere (software synth), DI guitars, Ping-Pong delay on the vocals, homemade percs, and my shitty AT-2020 microphone.
How do you prepare yourself mentally for performing or/and studio sessions?
I don’t really, I’m in this mindset all the time and I see it as an extension of my ”normal” life.
How has music production changed your outlook on life?
I definitely listen to music differently now, I always listen to every layer and analyse what is happening and how they made it sound the way it does, it makes you a bit crazy.
Tell us about your upcoming releases or projects
My album Magie à minuit (Magic at midnight) comes out on March 31st! It’s an evolving album that takes you on a wild ride for a party night!
