Q&A with Latin house music producer TRAEDONYA!

Music producer TRAEDONYA! released smooth house grooves and vocals alongside the rap stylings of Asen Beta last year with the single ‘Naked Gun’, and have left her fans longing for more. The Latin singer & producer has returned & taken a more jovial approach with her latest release ‘Black Pearl’ released via Prohibition Entertainment. ‘Black Pearl’ will make one reminiscence about Brazilian club anthems from the likes of Sergio Mendes.

We chatted with charming house producer & vocalist TRAEDONYA!  Below.

What’s your “secret sauce?” What makes your sound stand out?

My secret sauce is I am a country girl born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. I am a city girl raised in the Bronx, NY when Hip Hop was going through all of its growing pains. I went to Catholic school. I was trained at the Jazz Conservatory at the New School prior to dropping out for my record deal. I am this glorious melting pot.

What made you decide to pursue a musical career?

I was always performing for my family. My mom had music all in the house. Music is my oxygen.

Pros and cons of the industry from your perspective?

The pros are you get to live your dream. The cons are that dreams do not always come true.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

Chaka Khan – What Cha Gonna Do for me / Miles Davis – Bitches Brew / Aretha Franklin – Lady Soul

What key pieces of gear/software do you use to define your sound?

My voice and vocal training are my gear.

Vinyl or CD?

Vinyl, no question.

Tell us about your upcoming releases or projects?

‘Black Pearl’ the maxi version is out now. I hope we can dance to it at the club again, and get together again as people. The song is about Soccer legend Pele. His knick name was Black Pearl. The song has a Brazilian groove that makes you want to shake your groove thing.
