AVARA is refreshingly human and relatable. She readily admits to being “vulnerable” “emotional” and “sensitive” to the “world”. But these human qualities make the self-taught AVARA a singer/songwriter to watch. Indeed, she uses these qualities to bring music that is; exciting, different and ultimately a window to her intriguing mind. Inspired by diverse global names like; Billie Eilish, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, Travis Scott (and more) – AVARA wants to “dedicate [her] life to music because it’s my passion.” From the tender age of 3, AVARA was singing. It was clear she had that music bug. She remembers with distinct clarity a wish to pursue music; a wish forged by an innate urge and understanding that she could become a singer. Through her formative education from 6 to 18 years in different parts of the world, AVARA maintained her wish to “become a singer”. Indeed, she put in the necessary hard work to achieve this wish.
“There was one specific moment where I realised that music was more than a hobby for me which was when I had written my first song while I was at a boarding school. I realised that nothing in the world interests me as much as singing and making music”, she comments. Vocal training, sessions in studios, performances in choirs, honing her songwriting abilities and more setting the all-important foundation. And while AVARA’s belief in her chosen path was clear she found negativity from others. “All my problems initially stemmed from the fact that no one believed in me or my dream, and I had to prove and show a lot that music is my life. I prove this to this day. There have been sad stories when even family members said that I couldn’t sing, and no one even wanted to listen to me”, AVARA divulges. Instead of questioning her choice it only helped to solidify her resolve. For her (then) and now music is more than JUST music.
Now embarking on bringing ‘her’ music to the public those emotional spectrums are being transformed into amazing stories and her eclectic style fusing-alternative pop inspired by genres like; Afro House, electro, and R&B.
AVARA shares: “Music is most important because you feel emotions; I create a demo version in a non-existent language and then turn them into lyrics and song meanings. Music is my escape from reality. It helps me out of darkness and into the light.”
