REMIXER Prince Kaybee

Prince Kaybee Reimagines Karmacoda’s ‘Time’ With Driving Afro House Remix

Prince Kaybee, the platinum-selling South African Afro House producer and DJ, opens 2026 with a new remix of ‘Time’, originally by San Francisco alt-R&B duo Karmacoda. The track lands today, 13 February, via Sola Musa Music. Known for both his television presence and club dominance, Prince Kaybee earned his breakthrough by winning the 2015 1’s and 2’s DJ competition after years on local circuits. Since then he’s collected multiple South African Music Awards, including Male Artist of the Year, Best Dance Album, and Album of the Year, along with Metro FM and DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice honours. His global reach grew with a Soundcity MVP Best Collaboration win for ‘Gugulethu’ and AFRIMMA recognition. Platinum singles ‘Club Controller’, ‘Banomoya’, and ‘Uwrongo’ followed, with the last named one of TIME Magazine’s 10 Best Songs of 2020.

The original track touches on themes of regret and introspection. It features subtle, auto-tuned vocals woven into a kaleidoscope of piano chords, a steady shaker and a mesmerising melody. Prince Kaybee transformed the original into an Afro House masterpiece by adding a powerful, steady Afro House beat that forms the backbone of the remix. The sublime piano arpeggios create a strong emotional resonance, drawing the listener into a range of emotions from introspection to joy and hints of melancholy.

Prince Kaybee shared: “When I make music I see color, so the vocals on the original remind me of blue and I usually associate blue with a mild cold or a subtle fresh breeze. So before I did the remix I needed to find its color that’s how it started.
