DJ Lag’s ‘Woza’ Ignites the Dancefloor with 3-Step Evolution

DJ Lag, the South African maestro who put gqom on the global map, has unleashed his latest single ‘Woza’, which dropped on June 06, 2025, across all major streaming platforms. Hailing from Durban, he’s earned the title as the “Gqom King” with bangers like ‘Hade Bos‘ and The Re-Up, the latter racking up over 1 million streams. His work with Beyoncé on her Grammy-nominated The Lion King: The Gift and gigs at venues like Boiler Room and Drumsheds prove his heavyweight status. Currently tearing through a world tour with stops at EDC Las Vegas, Glastonbury, and Fabric, he’s a relentless force in dance music.

‘Woza’ taps into the rising 3-Step sound, a genre DJ Lag has been shaping alongside 3-Step trailblazer Thakzin. The track fuses gqom’s gritty pulse with an Afro Tech-charged bassline, crafting a high-octane vibe that’s both raw and uplifting. Sir Trill brings introspective, hard-hitting bars, while Sykes adds ghostly, soaring vocals, creating a sonic journey that feels anchored yet expansive, perfect for late-night sets or festival mainstages.

I started making the beat for ‘Woza’ while playing b2b sets with Thakzin. I wanted to capture my take on 3-Step while channeling Afro-Tech influences I’ve been spinning during live sets. When Sir Trill and Sykes added their magic, I knew I had something that merged my gqom roots with a new sonic direction, it just felt right,” DJ Lag shares. Sir Trill adds, “With the lyrics, I wanted to remind people who fathered the style, and how sometimes you can’t take things personally. It’s a message of resilience, pour a drink, let it be, and keep moving.” With ‘Woza’, DJ Lag proves he’s not just riding the wave—he’s steering it.
